In this episode, we crack the code on password security with the help of Dr Hazel Murray, a cybersecurity researcher at the CONNECT research centre.

According to Murray’s research, Irish users can be terribly predictable when it comes to setting passwords, relying on references to familiar cultural touchpoints like Roy Keane, Barry’s Tea or Tanora. (Can you tell which county this research came from?) 🍾

Predictable passwords make life easier for hackers, but Hazel has great advice to make responsible password management easier for us to bear.

She advises why some long-standing practices like frequently changing passwords can actually reduce security and gave us practical, best-practice tips that we can actually use.

This episode part of our mini series in partnership with CONNECT, where we’ve been speaking to their researchers about lots more tech at the intersection of science and society.
