FTS x CONNECT: Quantumania
Are you confused by quantum? You’re not alone! 😵💫
The UN has declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum Science but, 100 years since Erwin Schrödinger put a cat in a box postulated the equation that governs the wave function of a quantum-mechanical system, the science still hasn’t settled on quantum mechanics and how it can be applied to technologies such as computing.
But how we harness this emergent technology could have long-term impacts, which is why researchers at the CONNECT centre are exploring not just quantum computing and quantum networks, but the policy and communication around such technologies.
So strap yourself in for a world-expanding conversation with Dr Harun Šiljak and Dr Tom O’Dea from the Not a Space Race project, which is exploring how we discuss and plan for something that doesn’t exist yet.
Harun and Tom helped clarify our thinking around quantum also talked about interpretations of quantum science in pop culture. (You can imagine our delight when Buffy the Vampire Slayer entered the conversation!) 🧛🏻♂️
This episode part of our mini series in partnership with CONNECT, where we’ll be speaking to their researchers about lots more tech at the intersection of science and society.
